The crowd pictured above is almost certainly not a Black Lives Matter rally.
It’s not a rally for women’s rights, or for better treatment of transgendered tea=ens.
It’s certainly not fans of Lord of the Rings or Star Wars.
It could be a social gathering of incels — we might be on the right tracks there — but they would certainly be heterosexual incels, because the actual subject of the photo is part of the crowd at Whitestock 2019, or as they call it, CPAC.
When I chose the picture, I thought it made a point about the pandemic, but of course, it was taken before the pandemic ever began.
Still, the news out of Orlando was that the crowd at Whitestock 2021 booed loudly when asked from the podium to follow the rules of the hosting hotel and wear face masks.
The second picture is from this weekend, and while it shows a very small part of the crowd, only one person — the incel at lower right — is wearing a mask.
Only in Florida …
So many of the people at the yearly conference are hardcore Trumpanzees that it has been suggested the conference be renamed TPAC. Of course, there are so many Qanon types around the hall that maybe it should be QPAC, or maybe QTPAC even.
How about QTPIE? Nah, very few of them could actually be called cutie.
The scariest part of all this is that these people are not just on the far right, they’re on the looney right. I remember friends of mine and I used to joke that there was only one way to fill in Right Wing ——-.
Right Wing Lunatic.
In 1964, when Barry Goldwater ran for president with the slogan, “In your heart you know he’s right,” people used to say, “Yeah, far right.”
Or my favorite, “In your guts you know he’s nuts.”
Fifty-seven years later, Goldwater would be to the left of most of these folks politically.
They wouldn’t much like Ronald Reagan either. He was too upbeat and optimistic.
These folks like the haters — Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, the two Donald Trumps.
To them, liberals aren’t just the opposition. They’re the enemy.
We do have a small reason to hope.
Incels don’t reproduce.
And at least some of them are going to wish they had worn those masks.
