‘THE SYSTEM’ STILL OUT THERE AND IT’S STILL FUNNY

“… eight hundred pounds of angry hillbilly.”

“Disturbed Veterans of the Indian Wars.”

“No, Bubblegut! No!”

It’s tough to brag when your book ranks No. 1,149,768 for sales on Amazon, although that does leave “The System” in the top 12 percent or so of more than nine million listings.

We have acquired a rating. Someone gave it five stars out of five, which is nice, but it would have meant more if there had been a comment with it.

I love this book, although as its co-author, I have to admit to a little bias. I think it’s as funny a book about football as anything not written by someone named Dan or Jenkins or Dan Jenkins.

My wonderful friend Bill Madden deserves more than 50 percent of the credit. The book was his idea and he wrote the entire first draft. It’s actually difficult to remember exactly what I contributed, since we wrote the book in the early years of the Reagan Administration.

I do think “eight hundred pounds of angry hillbilly” was mine, and those might be as funny as any six words I ever wrote.

Those words describe two wonderful characters, defensive linemen named Alfonse Adonis and Romeo Adonis. You have to read the book to appreciate them, and it’s available on Amazon as either a trade paperback or a Kindle ebook.

Bill and I are doing what we can to promote it. We’ve done several radio interviews and we’ll do as many more as we can.

If you’re wondering why there’s a group in 1982 known as the Disturbed Veterans of the Indian Wars, and you’re dying to know who Bubblegut is, please buy the book.

My short-term goal is to crack the top 1 million.
