When Donald Trump was running against Hillary Clinton, he suggested the possibility that she might win the election.
This of course would have been disastrous to the far right, so Trump made some sort of stupid remark and maybe the only way to stop her might be “Second Amendment remedies.”
In case you didn’t get it, Trump was alluding to the possibility of preventing the horrible things Clinton might do as president by assassinating her.
If you look at the last hundred years or so, if a politician gets shot and/or killed for his/her political views in this country, they’re almost always liberals. Yes, Republicans have been shot at, Gerald Ford (twice) and Ronald Reagan, but none of those shootings were political. Two disturbed women shot at Ford and a sick kid who wanted to impress Jodie Foster shot at Reagan.
On the other side, we lost two Kennedys and a King, not to mention a non-politician who was an inspiration from the left to people the world over. Today is the 41st anniversary of the murder of John Lennon.
Maybe it’s time to turn some of the right wing’s rhetoric back on them.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t want to see anyone assassinated, but I wouldn’t mind seeing us throw a little fear into Trump by suggesting that if it looks like he would be returning to power, we might have to consider Second Amendment remedies.
He’s basically enough of a coward that talking about stuff like that and then popping a few balloons in his presence might make politics a little less interesting.
Too many folks on the left would rather be correct than win.
That needs to change.
