RACISM AMONG REPUBLICANS NOT GOING AWAY

“We are being forced into a corner by these enemies of the People. If it is civil war they want, they will get it in spades. Perhaps the best way to pull us back from the brink is a good public lynching.”
DAVID DIETRICH, Virginia Republican official

It may or may not surprise you to learn that Dietrich, who was a member 0f the electoral board in Hampton, is actually now a former Republican official. The above quote was part of a post on Facebook in which Dietrich ripped Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin for his efforts to remove white nationalists from the military.

Here’s a screen capture of the post:

It should come as a surprise to no one that there are people like this. Look back at the presidency of Barack Obama if you have forgotten. Shortly after his election in 2008, a Southern California Republican posted a picture showing the White House lawn plowed and covered with watermelons.

Or the picture that showed why Obama couldn’t produce a birth certificate.

Don’t forget the bumper sticker urging people to keep Obama from winning a second term.

Yep, and Republicans claim racism is no longer a problem and that anyone complaining about it is a “Snowflake.”

It really is a shame that the party of Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower has turned into the party of Klan Mom, Tommy Tuberville and Donald Trump.

That’s not fair, Mike. President Trump says he’s the least racist person you’ll ever meet.

Yeah, and if you believe that …

Who would have thought that after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, crap like this would still be going on? I was 14 in 1964 and if someone had asked me if everything was going to be all right, I probably would have said that things wouldn’t change overnight, but certainly racism would be gone from American life 22 years into the 21st century.

Boy, was I naive.

President Johnson explained it perfectly in 1964. He was trying to tell us the gap in this country wasn’t between black and white at all, that what it was really about was rich and poor.

We have the stupidest, greediest rich people of any so-called free country. No amount is ever enough to make them happy, and we are so eager to give them our money we might as well be bending over and letting them turn us every which way but loose.

In 1964, you could count the number of billionaires in the U.S. on one had and still have fingers to spare. Now Kim Kardashian is a billionaire as are more than 700 other Americans. Nobody benefitted from the pandemic more than they did. In 2020, the total wealth of the world’s billionaires was about $8 trillion.

Two years later, it’s more than $13 trillion.

It is truly appalling that instead of trickle-down economics, wealth is not like geyser going up, with one exception. It doesn’t fall back down.

The mega-rich have to be loving the political horror show the post-Roe v Wade is going to be. Folks on both sides will march and march, yell and scream and nobody will pay attention while the rich steal more and more of their money.

Inflation?

You want to complain about inflation.

In 1971, the owner of the Washington Senators baseball team sold his franchise to Texas interests. They paid about $10 million and moved the team to Dallas-Fort Worth to become the Texas Rangers.

As of March 2022, Forbes estimates the value of the Rangers at $2.05 billion.

Yeah, with a “b.”

Meanwhile, racists, er, Republicans in Texas are doing everything they can to make it impossible for African-American and Latino citizens to vote.

I would never say all Republicans are racist, but it certainly does look like most racists are voting Republican these days.

And they don’t seem to be going away.

We never got our flying cars either.
