“People, this is it. Leave work tomorrow as soon as the gun shop/Army-Navy store/pawn shop opens, get whatever you need to be ready for combat. We must not tolerate this one. They have been conditioning us to accept tyranny and think we can’t do anything for 2 years. This time we must respond with force.”
Those darned FBI agents just won’t leave our great former president alone.
Apparently some folks on the right are truly angry that federal law enforcement people executed a search warrant for documents that Donald Trump illegally took with him when he left the White House.
There have been numerous online threats toward the FBI on Trump’s social website, including 374 posts in the last eight days by a man named Ricky Shiffer.
“Be ready to kill the enemy. Kill (the FBI) on sight.”
Apparently, he tried. Fully armed and wearing body armor, Shiffer apparently tried to attack the FBI’s office in Cincinnati Thursday. He was killed in a shootout with police.
Right around the time he attacked, a message posted on his account on Trump’s Truth Social website.
“If you don’t hear from me, it is true I tried attacking the F.B.I.”
As some folks say, shit just got real.
Perhaps someday historians will figure out where all the groups that have become so antisocial got started. Perhaps they will figure out why someone as truly odd as Trump became the hero of people for whom he had no respect at all.
But whether it’s Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, the Ku Klux Klan or some unnamed groups on the Dark Web, we have a large number of people who feel horribly threatened by modern America.
I would imagine J. Edgar Hoover must be spinning in his grave to see folks on the far right hating the FBI.
Of course learning that Trump took boxes of papers about nuclear weapons that were highly classified makes Republicans look foolish for saying this was all about Biden going after a political enemy. Trump made a preposterous claim that President Obama had taken more than 30 million White House documents with him when he left office, but one thing Trump understands very well is that people on your side will believe even obvious lies.
Sometimes it seems as if he has mystical powers. Russia has been the bete noire to the American right wing for 75 years, but Trump seems to have convinced many of them that Russia is really our friend.
The scary part of all this is that Trump isn’t even a good liar.
He is, however, that crafty. And he knows that he’s dealing with people who will fall for pretty much anything he says.
And that’s the root of the problem.
