HERSCHEL’S ONLY TRUTH IS HE ISN’T UP TO THE JOB

I like living in Georgia, but one thing I don’t like is having to go through elections twice.

I mean, is Herschel Walker ever going to go away?

He was a great football player and he led the University of Georgia to its first NCAA championship … 4o years ago. He went on to have a good career in the National Football League, but none of that remotely qualifies someone to be a United States senator.

But Mike, he was an FBI agent.

No, that was a lie?

A deputy sheriff?

Honorary only.

Well, he did graduate from college in the top 1 percent of his class.

Not quite.

Top 10 percent?

Not exactly.

Where then?

Actually he never graduated at all.

Oh, no. What could be worse?

Well, he doesn’t actually live in Georgia.

WHAT!?

He claims his home in Texas as his primary residence and has for the past 10 years. Before you have a stroke, though, that’s actually not illegal. The Constitution says senators have to live in the states they represent once they’re elected.

That’s a blessing, at least.

Unless it bothers you that Republicans couldn’t find a decent candidate who actually lived in Georgia.

I have a hunch that if Herschel had turned them down, the next step would have been seeing if Klan Mom, aka Marjorie Taylor Greene, wanted to move up to the Senate. Or maybe Kanye West, aka Ye/Yay, could have run.

Really?

Naw, we haven’t sunk as low as Florida. I think what mattered the most was that since the Democrat, incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock, was an African-American, Republicans needed a colored man of their own.

They searched for a great man with Georgia roots. Someone mentioned Otis Redding or Little Richard from Macon, but they were both dead. Ditto the legendary Uncle Remus. Someone even mentioned Big Sam, the loyal retainer from “Gone With the Wind,” but he was both dead and a fictional character.

Anyway, they were stuck with Herschel as their candidate, and there is probably a 50 percent chance we’ll be stuck with him as our senator.

If only Little Richard were still alive.

At least he would have some entertainment value.

Herschel just has cringe value.
