GREENE HEADING FARTHER OFF INTO ODDNESS

Klan Mom strikes again.

Just when those of us in Georgia were taking a victory lap for sparing the Senate from Herschel Walker, we were reminded that we did after all inflict Marjorie Taylor Greene — aka Klan Mom — on the House of Representatives.

True, Greene only represents one of 14 Georgia districts, one of the “Deliverance” ones. But she turned herself into one of the leading Trumpanzees and has gone farther and farther beyond the pale in her statements.

Klan Mom

Saturday she pulled a stunt that is popular on the Rabid Right, a stunt first popularized by the late Rush Limbaugh. You make an outrageous statement and when people react to it, you say you were just being funny or sarcastic. Limbaugh usually did it to say something racist or misogynistic.

Greene did it about the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the Capitol, pushing back against accusations that she was one of the ringleaders of the attempt to prevent Congress from certifying the 2020 presidential election.

Speaking to a New York City Young Republican dinner, she said:

“I want to tell you something, if Steve Bannon and I had organized that, we would have won. Not to mention, we would’ve been armed.”

Several White House spokespersons said Monday Greene’s remarks were totally unacceptable for someone who takes an oath to uphold the Constitution.

“This violent rhetoric is a slap in the face to the Capitol Police, the DC Metropolitan Police, the National Guard, and the families who lost loved ones as a result of the attack on the Capitol,” deputy White House press secretary Andrew Bates said in a statement. “All leaders have a responsibility to condemn these dangerous, abhorrent remarks and stand up for our Constitution and the rule of law.”

Greene’s response? She was just being sarcastic.

Uh, no.

Maybe on the “convey contempt” part, but Greene wouldn’t know irony if it stepped up and bit her on the ass.

In other words, she is telling us to lighten up.

There’s simply no way her constituents will vote her out. Folks in the “Deliverance” part of our state have been known to ask judges if getting divorced means they’re no longer brother and sister. If she has her way, she may have run her last House race. While it may not be likely to happen, it has been obvious for a long time she would love to be Trump’s running mate in 2024.

Greene on the ticket? Well, it could help with those voters who would never miss voting for Trump. They would be doubly certain to vote. And the Never Trumpers wouldn’t change their mind.

So it comes down to those who could be persuaded to vote for Trump.

Does Madge win them over?

In Michigan, in Wisconsin, in Pennsylvania?

Not until she learns what sarcasm is.
