I have never created a meme.
In fact, I didn’t even know till recently if the word was pronounce “MEMM” or “MEEM.” or if it mattered which it was.
I have on the other hand seen hundreds if not thousands of memes created by other people. There were two huge ones in the early days that seemed to be used for nearly everything imaginable.
First were the Willy Wonka ones.
Then there was Batman.
Not all of them are apolitical. One I don’t have here has Batman slapping Donald Trump and saying, “You’re the president. Stop acting like the village idiot.”
Trump’s response is, “Why can’t I be both?”
As I said back at the beginning of this piece, I have never created a meme. That’s not because I think it’s a waste of time or somehow beneath me. My only rule for humor is that it has to be funny.
No, the reason I have never created a meme is that my computer skills are so limited. My brilliant wife can actually create programs from scratch, which would be the equivalent of me building a car from scratch using only the parts, the tools and an Autobuilding 101 textbook.
I have specific applications and programs I use, and I had learned enough about them to suit my purposes. Still, I can use Microsoft Word for what I need, but I probably only use 20-25 percent of what it could do for me. I have Adobe Acrobat, but I’ve never tried to do anything more than just change plain text to PDF.
I’m more concerned about the written word (blog posts, etc.) and the spoken word (podcasts) that I am with memes anyway.
So itstead of creating them, I’ll just enjoy them.
