Don’t let the Trumpanzees lie and say it’s the truth

The first time I saw this on Facebook, I laughed. It was one of those things that sounds really good until you start thinking about it and realized it’s just part of Donald Trump’s big con.

As I said, I wasn’t going to comment on it, but I have seen it spreading. I’ve seen it posted by three different people. I figure I had better try to explain the con for those folks who might overlook it.

So here goes:

***

“Someone recently asked me why I like Trump. My answer was that I don’t really like a lot of things about Trump. But this election is not about choosing the most likeable person. We are voting between two vastly different ideologies. We are voting for the country we want to leave our children and grandchildren.

“Trump represents that future and has proven that he can deliver. He is a patriot to the core and even served his country for 4 years without pay.”

Really? Without pay? Yes, he didn’t accept the $400,000 a year salary for the four years he was in office. But he charged the Secret Service tens of millions of dollars to stay at his hotels when they traveled with him. Millions and millions to protect him all the times he played golf. Those are just the tip of the iceberg.

‘I’m voting for the First Amendment and freedom of speech. I’m voting for the right to speak my opinion and not be censored.”

Really? Which Democratic president attacked freedom of speech? The only president this century who did was George W. Bush, whose press secretary Ari Fleischer attacked Bill Maher and others after 9/11 by saying people need to watch what they say.

“I’m voting for secure borders and LEGAL immigration. I am voting for election integrity to include mandatory voter ID. (Why would anyone vote against this?)”

Really? Your man Trump says he wants to prevent Muslims from entering the U.S., legally or otherwise. Mandatory voter ID is already in effect in most states. I live in Georgia where no one votes without ID. The whole deal with Republicans is asking for an ID that is more difficult for African-Americans to get.

“I’m voting for the Second Amendment and my right to defend my life and my family.”

Really? Ronald Reagan, no foe of the Second Amendment, said no one should own military weapons of war. NRA types now want it to be easy to buy whatever weapons anyone wants without showing ID.

“I’m voting for the police to be respected once again.”

Really? Trump respects the police? Give me a break.

“I am voting for law & order and an end to allowing protesters to trespass and burn our cities, destroying innocent small business. (Tim Walz)”

Really? But it’s OK when they trespass and loot the Capitol, right?

“I am voting for personal responsibility and the end of the revolving door where criminals are being put back on the street. (Kamala Harris)”

Really? This one is just stupid. When Harris was a prosecutor, she didn’t put criminals back on the street.

“I’m voting for the next Supreme Court Justice(s) to protect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.”

Really? Which right would they be protecting? All this Court has done is take away rights.

“I’m voting for a return of our troops from foreign countries and the end to America’s involvement in foreign conflicts.”

Really? After all, that worked out real well with Hitler. Good thing we didn’t do that during the Cold War either.

“I’m voting for the Electoral College and for the Republic in which we live.”

Yes, because it’s so important for our president to be elected when he loses by more than 7 million votes.

“I’m voting for the continued appointment of Federal Judges who respect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.”

Really? Have you seen the idiocy coming out of the Court? Apparently not.

“I’m voting for keeping our jobs to remain in America and not be outsourced all over the world – to China, Mexico and other foreign countries.”

Really? If you had been paying attention, it has always been Republicans sending jobs overseas.

“I am voting for doing away with all of the freebies given to all of the illegals and not looking after the needs of the American citizens and homeless veterans.”

Really? What freebies do you mean, and have Republicans ever wanted to help the homeless? Grow up.

“I’m voting for the military & the veterans who fought for this country.”

Really? You’re doing that by voting for the man who called people in the military suckers and losers? The man who when his son Don Jr. talked about enlisting said he would disown him if he did?

“I’m voting to keep men out of women’s sports.”

Really? The Algerian boxer who Trump attacked was not transsexual but was actually a woman.

“I’m voting for peace progress in the Middle East.”

Really? The only “progress” Trump made was with small countries that never attacked Israel. Supporting the right-wing Israeli government is not peace progress.

“I’m voting to fight against human/child trafficking.”

Really? Who is for that?

“I’m voting for Freedom of Religion.”

Really. You support freedom of religion by voting for a man who wants to ban Muslims? Voting for right-wing Christian Nationalism is not freedom of religion.

“I am voting for the return of teaching math, history, and science instead of the indoctrination of our children.”

Really? You want history taught that denies slavery was bad? You want science taught that denies evolution? Go away.

“I’m not just voting for one person. I’m voting for the future of my Country. I’m voting for my children and my grandchildren to ensure their freedoms.

“America is the greatest country in the world, hence why everyone wants to immigrate here. So why do you want to change it? Why do politicians want to enact policies that have failed in other countries throughout history?

“I’m not voting for Trump. I’m voting for America.”

I’ll let that last speak for itself.
