A SHOCK TO SEE A FRIEND AT THE ‘INCEL BALL’

I got one helluva shock a few minutes ago.

I sat down to write a piece about how if the White House Correspondents Dinner is the “Nerd Prom,” as others have called it, then CPAC, which I call “Whitestock,” must be something worse.

I was thinking maybe the “Incel Ball.”

So I looked at the list of speakers and saw most of the morons I would have expected to be there. James O’Keefe, Scott Walker, Donald Trumps (senior and junior) and a host of others. The only one I didn’t see was the loathsome Dinesh D’Souza.

Get to the point. What was the shock?

Well, as I went down the list, I came across the name of a former colleague and friend of mine, someone I respect a great deal.

You might be surprised that it was such a shock to me. After all, Sara Carter has a show on Fox News and regularly appears on Sean Hannity’s show. But I don’t watch Fox News. I’m not sure I’ve ever watched Fox News, so anything happening on that channel might as well not exist as far as I’m concerned.

Back around 2003, she and I were both working for one of the lesser lights in the Los Angeles Newspaper Group in Ontario, California. I was playing out the schedule and looking forward to retiring. She was starting what would turn out to be a rocket rise to stardom and renown.

Her cubicle and mine faced each other over a low barrier, so we talked a lot. I don’t remember what she started out covering, but I remember she started working on immigration stuff and she was outstanding. She won awards and then she left for Washington, D.C., for a job at the Washington Times.

I’m not sure how she wound up at Fox News, although the opportunity to be on television can be kind of a big deal, and the money must have been much better.

She’s part of a panel discussion Saturday morning that I won’t be watching. “Who’s the Boss and Where’s My Applesauce?” purports to be about who’s really running the White House for senile old Joe Biden. Aside from thinking the topic itself is ridiculous, I really wouldn’t want to see any of the other people involved.

As for my friend, she’s a major success.

I’m happy for her and I hope she gets what she wants.

She really is one of the better people I knew.
