Wouldn’t it seem reasonable in a democracy that people running for office would want eligible voters to cast their ballots?
Even if they don’t, wouldn’t it seem logical that they would pay lip service to obeying the will of the voters?
Especially if they’re trying to convince people that they’re the party of the common man.
They don’t even try to hide it. In Wisconsin, they eliminated 300,000 voters from the rolls before the 2016 election. In North Carolina, Republicans bragged about how successful they were in reducing African-American turnout.
In Georgia in 2018, Secretary of State Brian Kemp knocked 250,000 African-American voters off the rolls and gave gubernatorial candidate Kemp the winning edge over Democrat Stacey Abrams. When Kemp was asked about voter suppression, he said if they let everyone vote in Georgia, Republicans would never win another election.
Republicans in Washington are saying the same thing in opposing Democrats’ reform bill that would reduce voter suppression. If they make it easier for people to vote, they’ll have a much more difficult time hanging onto power.
In every classification except white men, Republicans are a minority. The only age group they still win is voters 55 and older.
If you look at what Republicans are for, it pretty much starts and ends with the economic welfare of the wealthy. They con working class voters into supporting an agenda that hurts them financially by making it sound like they care about the so-called culture wars.
Things will never go back to the way they were. It used to be a big deal to be a millionaire, but how if you don’t have a net wealth of $1.2 million or more, you’re not even in the top 10 percent.
There’s really only one issue that matters in the long run.
Make sure everyone who has the right to vote and wants to vote, gets to vote. Make sure minorities and economically disadvantaged people have basically the same opportunity to get to polling places as the wealthy.
Without that, don’t kid yourself.
America will be gone and it won’t be coming back.
