When I started this new website late last summer, the main purpose was NOT blogging.
I had been blogging on one site or another for 20 years, and I even made some money at it for the old All Voices website. And of course I had been writing for newspapers from coast to coast for more than 20 years before that.
But what I really wanted to do was direct.
That’s an old Hollywood joke. Sorry.
What I really wanted to do was diversify what I was doing, adding in regular podcasts and maybe even an occasional video.
So I called the overall website “Captive on the Carousel,” and the related podcast website “Captive on the Carousel of Time,” both related to Joni Mitchell’s iconic song “The Circle Game.”
If you’re not familiar with it, the song is about growing up and the ways our lives change as we go round and round in the circle game.
“And the seasons, they go round and round and the painted ponies go up and down, We’re captive on the carousel of time. We can’t return, we can only look behind, from where we came and go round and round and round, in the circle game.”
Anyway, I’ve been writing a lot mo0re consistently than in any of my previous websites. If you check the site on any given day, there’s about an 80 percent chance there’s a new post.
I haven’t done as well with the podcasts. After a strong start, I went a month without anything new. But a week or so ago, I decided to try something different. I started posting a chapter a day from a manuscript I have been reworking. It’s newer, better version of the first novel I completed.
It was called “Sharing Her Dreams” in 1989, and the new version is called “Twice in a Lifetime.”
Try it. I hope you like it, and I’ll try to start doing some other podcasts too.
Enjoy.
