NATS DEVASTATE FANS BY GETTING RID OF TURNER

This will be a very short post. I basically make it so I don’t have to scream.

I have been a baseball fan since 1957, and one of my earliest baseball memories is heartbreaking — the line drive by Gil McDougal that effectively ruined Herb Score’s career.

I’m sorry to say today felt almost as bad.

I think the only thing worse than being a Washington Nationals fan today might be being a Cubs fan.. The Cubs traded maybe the four biggest names on their roster, dumping Javier Baez, Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Craig Kimbrel.

Hard to believe they won the World Series just five years ago.

The Nationals are far worse. They won the Series just two years ago, and injuries have been a big part of their problems in 2021.

So what did they do?

They traded Max Scherzer, one of the three best pitchers in the game.

They traded Kyle Schwarber, out with a pulled hamstring but hitting home runs at a near-record pace before that.

They traded four other players who all had significant roles.

And they traded Trea Turner.

Trea frigging Turner.

Turner had talked in the past about how wonderful it would be to play his entire career with one team, but apparently the Nats hadn’t managed to make him an offer good enough to convince him to forgo free agency at the end of the 2022 season.

So they traded him.

They let Bryce Harper get away.

They let Anthony Rendon get away.

And now they lose Turner, maybe the best of the three.

Aaaaaaaaarrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!

I’ll tell you one thing. If they don’t keep Juan Soto in three years, I’m through with them.

But I’ll still never become a Cub fan.
