TIME TO SEE THE CRIMINALS FOR WHAT THEY REALLY ARE

I think it’s time to stop being hypocritical and to start calling Republicans criminals.

Mike …

Yes, I know it’s overly dramatic, but it is increasingly obvious that the people on the right have gone beyond political disagreements and have reached the point where they will sabotage America and hurt Americans if they think it will make points with voters by turning them against Democrats.

Lay down with dogs, stand up with fleas.

Lay down with Trump, wake up with sleaze.

We’re getting near the two-year mark of the pandemic, and it’s a pretty good bet Republicans, er, Criminals will use the failure to end it against Democrats in next fall’s midterm elections. But the main reason we aren’t closer to the end of the pandemic is that millions of people — mostly on the right — are refusing to be vaccinated.

We can argue freedom issues, but vaccination mandates have been long established as legitimate to protect public health. We don’t allow children to attend school unless they have been inoculated against contagious childhood diseases.

Right wingers like Lauren Boebert and Gym Jordan, Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene, have proved time and again that anything Democrats want, no matter how logical, must be rejected. Especially when it comes to the pandemic. Any progress against COVID-19 makes Democrats look better, and that hurts the chances of Republicans to regain control of Congress.

And what’s the point?

Why does control matter to them?

It’s all about the Benjamins, all about sending government contracts to their backers and about cutting taxes on the mega-wealthy.

And of course making people adhere to the rules the fundies and evangelicals want them to live by.

It really is amazing in the third millennium that people still seem to care so much about people who don’t want to live the way they do. It’s as if the more they can force people to play by their rules, the more it legitimizes the choices they have made.

But the whole vaccination thing is where the Republicans, er, Criminals really go beyond the pale.

They attacked unemployment benefits as a disincentive to people working, but in recent weeks, five red states — Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Kansas and Tennessee — have authorized unemployment benefits for people who are fired for refusing their employers’ vaccine mandates.

Ordinarily, being fired for cause or voluntarily quitting make someone ineligible for unemployment benefits.

Make no mistake about it. Incentivizing the refusal to be vaccinated will cause additional deaths and will make the pandemic last longer.

Which is exactly what the Criminals want.
