Two years ago today …
Thousands of insurrectionists attacked the U.S. Capitol and in effect tried to overthrow the federal government.
Let’s be honest with ourselves. What happened on January 6th, 2021, was all about Donald J. Trump and his desire to be the king of the USA, and it will be a tragedy of massive proportions if he doesn’t pay for his crimes.
We are at a true crisis point in our country. There are tens of millions of Americans who no longer believe in our democratic system, who want an authoritarian leader who will tell people how to live. As long as he is telling the people they don’t like.
Many of them are Christian Dominionists, but the Jesus they claim to love isn’t the Jesus of the Bible who says to love our neighbors and take care of the poor. He isn’t the one who says the rich must give their goods to the poor.
Their Jesus is the one who hates homosexuals and wants to control women’s bodies, things Jesus never said.
Their Jesus also dearly loves Donald Trump.
There’s a similar picture in which Trump has his arms around Jesus’ waist, with the caption that 30 minutes later, Jesus realized his wallet was missing.
One thing that truly flabbergasts me are the so-called Christians who see good qualities in Trump, or even worse, who see Christlike qualities in him. This is a man who says his favorite Bible verse is an eye for an eye but then completely misinterprets it by saying he strikes back 10 times as hard.
The actual verse is about proportional response. You take and eye for an eye and no more.
Revenge is not a Christian quality.
Trump has done tremendous damage to America, and if he doesn’t suffer serious repercussions for his actions, it may not be possible to completely repair that damage.
As some of the insurrectionists go to prison for however long, they need to see their leader pay the same price. If Trump doesn’t go to jail, he needs to flee the country.
His buddy Vladimir Putin might have a nice dacha for him outside of Moscow.
There’s your happy ending.
