It has been a lot of years since I watched television the traditional way.
What’s the “traditional” way? Turning on the TV at the scheduled time, setting it to the correct channel and then sitting down and watching the show at the same time each week. Sitting through commercial breaks and then watching the next segment of the show.
When the episode ends, waiting until next week to see the next episode.
I think the last time I watched a show that way was about 15 years ago, one of the final seasons of “24.”
Mostly, I watch on my own terms now. I watched 10 seasons of “Smallville” without once doing it the traditional way.
It wouldn’t make any list of the best television series I have seen, but it’s one of my favorites and I can imagine sitting down someday and starting to watch all 217 episodes again.
There are only a couple of shows I watch week by week, although I wait until I can watch them at my leisure. Everything else, I binge-watch at my own pace. Oddly, the only show I watch week after week is sorts of an ordinary one, which I watch mostly because I like the characteres.
“Blue Bloods” is coming to the end of its 13th season, which might make it the longest series I have ever watched. As I said, it’s a relatively ordinary cop show. I do enjoy it, though.
I do have two almost new shows I like, but that has caused a bit of a problem in one respect. I just watched 10 episodes of the new “Star Trek” prequel series, which is the entire first season. The problem is, that’s all there is. Season Two starts this summer.
I have also watched the first two seasons of “Superman & Lois,” and I believe the series is four episodes into Season Three now. At least this series has 15 episodes per season. I’m not sure how I feel about this show. It is pretty far-fetched in several ways, and it’s apparently part of what’s referred to as the Arrowverse.
I’ve written before about my enjoyment of “Yellowstone” and its various prequel series. Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford are wonderful in “1923,” but that season ended after just eight episodes.
If there’s one thing odd about my viewing habits, it’s that I used to love situation comedies and now I hardly watch them at all.
I really ought to watch less TV and more movies.
