Just a note to say we’re back at the old stand

Assisted living?

Not anymore.

Home again?

To quote the lovely and vivacious Snowbilly T. Grifter, you betcha.

After four and a half months of assisted living — which I actually liked — Nicole and I are back at our 16-year home in Sun City Peachtree.

Why? Basically because she hated it and she got a medical diagnosis good enough to get out. Good enough to go home doesn’t mean good enough to live alone, so I am back in my former role as caregiver. Not that I mind, but my sojourn at The Canopy at Westridge knocked my a(1)c down below diabetic levels and also resulted in my losing 40 pounds of highly unnecessary weight.

We also bought a car for the first time in 17 years. We drove our Hyundai Tucson into the ground, putting 190,000 miles on it since purchasing it new it California in August 2009.

This one wasn’t new, but was only a year old when we bought it from Enterprise Car Sales. It’s a 2025 Chevrolet Equinox and it has a lot of the new features we have seen in rental cars the last 10 years or so. I won’t bore you by describing them.

I will say not having a key takes a little getting used to.

At any rate, we’re getting things hooked up and turned on again, hoping to do better at home than we were doing a year ago February when Nicole had to go into Memory Care. She’s better now, so we’re home.

Wish us luck.

Or at least thoughts and prayers.

  1. Big thumbs up. 🙂

And I think you’ll find that “keyless” is a *good* thing: the fob never leaves your pocket, pretty much impossible to lock it in the car. Between that and wireless Android Auto, I just get in and drive, hit the lock button on the door handle when I get out, no muss no fuss.
