Trump’s ‘zees find new ways to show their love

Do you think Donald Trump’s so-called Christian followers realize the Holy Bible has a New Testament?

In fact, I find myself wondering if many of them have gone past the third book of the Old Testament.

That third book, Leviticus, is the one used most by fundamentalists and dominionists to justify prejudice against gay people and others who don’t fit their ideas of what good people should be.

This week they didn’t even make it to the third book.

Trump and his trumpanzees erected a 22-foot gilded statue of him outside the clubhouse of his Doral Golf Course outside Miami, Fla. Trump of course will say he had nothing to do with it, that it was a tribute from the people who love him, but he owns the golf course. Do you really think anyone would build a garish 22-foot statue on your property without your permission?

If you do, you might be a trumpanzee.

Either that or just stupid.

Of course Trump’s unfortunate obsession with gold meant that folks with more than half a brain would go straight to the book of Exodus, the part where Moses ascended Mount Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments from God. The anxious Israelites went a little crazy while he was gone and built a golden calf they worshipped.

When Moses returned, he was furious. Especially since the second commandment of the ten specifically forbade making and worshipping graven images.

Fundie pastor Mark Burns denied that was what was going on here.

“Let me be clear: this is not a golden calf,” he said on social media. “This statue is a celebration of life. It is a symbol of resilience, freedom, patriotism, strength, and the willpower to keep fighting for the future of America.”

Of course whether he’ll admit it or not, Burns must realize one thing.

Just because he says it isn’t a golden calf doesn’t mean that it isn’t.
